Rimmel London ad banned for implying girls need make-up - BBC News Get ready to slay. Was this advert misunderstood or was the ASA right to ban it? make up is often seen as a form of creativity, confidence self expression. when did people start taking everything to heart is Rimmel trying to empower young women trying to create customer base from a young age, i think the person who wrote this article is very old fashioned and outdated with their views, firstly since when was make up just for women and young girls? make up is for anyone and everyone who wants to wear it. make up is empowering to a lot of people it is a way of creating identity and for young people starting to find out who they are by experimenting with colors, techniques and looks. the problem with this advert is i how it is represented to young people their is a difference between encouraging young people to wear make up because they enjoy it or suggesting a person needs to wear make up to feel good or be accepted. Make up should be a choice, beauty brands have the opportunity to celebrate different identities and encourage people to experiment without implying thar anyone ”needs” make up to be attractive or successful. make up should be worn as a personal choice not because society expects it. yes make up gives us confidence but effects everyone differently, some feel confident without wearing any make up while others enjoy wearing it daily. Coty has stated that this advert was targeted at 18-35 year old’s who where interested in cosmetics and the company argued the campaign was intended to motivate and build confidence rather than make a person feel insecure. was it all blown up and got out of hand? I understand Rimmel is a mainstream cosmetic that is aimed at a wide audience but is Rimmel really what young people want to be wearing these days? look at P.Louise and made by Mitchell they have a very strong social media presence and highly recommended on TikTok for younger people. How much influence do these brands have on our young people. maybe the brands should focus more on peoples creativity individuality and rather than preying on peoples insecurities. is it all just peer pressure people trying to fit in, seeing influencers and people wearing trending products everybody wants to fit in and be accepted. rimmel’s decision to use love islander in a back to school advert was questionable was she the right person for the job as a recognizable celeb is she the right candidate for this brand and the slogan “get ready to slay this back to school season” maybe not . Rimmel is generally considered affordable especially compared to some high end brands and is widely available in supermarkets and pharmacies but not always affordable to everyone. the brand advertises to younger audiences but sometimes products they necessarily need so this itself raises more questions. overall rimmel’s prices are reasonably affordable but still depends on personal circumstances. the low to mid price helps reach a larger audience. in conclusion personally i didnt see a problem with this advert and feel everybody likes to have negative opinions snd judge people.
